The American improvised musical art form called jazz doesn't exist without the roots of the African-American experience and, particularly, without gospel music. Many of the early jazz masters played in church or had the church experience and gospel music as their first musical experience(s). Award-winning guitarist Terrence Brewer, recently proclaimed "the SF Bay Area's #1 Jazz Guitarist" (David Becker, AXS.com) will explore the crossroads where jazz and gospel music converge. Brewer will explore gospel compositions through the eyes of a modern jazz improviser and share his own stories of growing up playing in the church and how he was inspired by sacred music and the large role gospel music played in his development...
