Nora Stanley is a Bay Area-based saxophonist and composer whose interests and work live at the intersection of composed and improvised music with an emphasis on interaction and collaboration in a contemporary context. In addition to playing as a sideperson, she leads a quartet and a trio as well as BANKSHOT, an improvised wind quartet, and an electric/acoustic duo project. She has shared the stage with Dayna Stephens, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Gary Bartz, and has performed at Monterey Jazz Festival and SFJAZZ. Stanley is joined by Raffi Garabedian on saxophone, Omree Gal-Oz on piano, Owen Clapp on bass, and Matt Buckner on drums for this performance.

Oakland-based artist, Danielle Wertz, has rapidly gained national acclaim since being named a semi-finalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition. Weaving together elements of straight-ahead, modern jazz and folk, Danielle’s artistry has been described as, "untarnished by the politics of music" (Jazz Music Archives) and "at home alongside more contemporary exponents of improvising singing" (LoudMouth, AU). Her debut album, Intertwined, was ranked #4 on Capital Bop's list of "Best DC Jazz Albums of 2017" and has continued to receive high praise since its release. Since relocating to California in 2017, Danielle has quickly gained recognition as one of the Bay Area’s most in-demand jazz vocalists.

For this unique performance, Danielle brings her quintet to the West Oakland Sessions to present brand new original compositions and arrangements just one day before heading into the studio to record her next album. Featuring Keith Ganz on guitar, Sam Priven on alto saxophone, Javier Santiago on piano, Owen Clapp on bass, and Evan Hyde on drums.
