About

Rent Romus & Heikki Koskinen present a re-envisioning of Romus' musical odyssey, the Otherworld Cycle for small ensemble. As well as preparing fpr their tour to Southern Finland in May they also honor 100 years of Finnish Independence as a country.

The Otherworld Cycle is a set of original songs with improvised vocal transitions written for ensembles ranging in size from 5-15 performing musicians. The music is inspired by the epic poems of the Kalevala, Karelian regional folk song form, and Sami Joik elements of the native peoples of Northern Finland. The ensemble arrangements utilize voice, double bass, saxophones, brass and percussion, augmented by traditional Karelian and Finnish instruments such as kantele, bells, handmade reed instruments, and overtone flutes....
